Today, also called The Today Programme, is a British early-morning news radio programme broadcast on BBC Radio 4. It started in 1957 on the BBC Home Service. It is broadcast Monday to Friday 6:00a.m. to 9:00a.m.; and 7:00a.m. to 9:00a.m. on Saturdays. It is one of the most popular programmes on BBC Radio 4.[1] There are political interviews and reports; and also the religious Thought for the Day. It was voted the most influential news programme in Britain.[2] Around 7 million people listen to it every week.[3][4]
According to figures released by Rajar, it had an average reach of 6.8m listeners per week in the first three months of 2018, compared with 7.1m in the first quarter of 2015.
Today's weekly audience soared to 7.35m listeners [...] The figure exceeded the programme's previous record high of 7.18m in 2011, according to figures from listening bureau Rajar.
